William J. “Bill” Ross, 81, longtime resident of Amnicon Lake, WI, died peacefully, Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at his daughter’s home with his loving wife, daughters and family by his side.
He was born in Superior, December 3, 1940, the son of Harry L. and Stella (Hoffman) Ross.
He graduated from East High School and took a drafting course at Superior Vocational School. He worked for the City of Superior for many years as Superintendent of Streets and as a heavy equipment operator.
Bill was united in marriage to Judith Ann Deneweth in Superior on August 10, 1963, and they celebrated fifty-eight years of marriage. Bill was a handyman and craftsman and was especially gifted in woodworking and welding. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do! He especially enjoyed sharing his talent with friends and family and was known to create beautiful pieces of furniture for his wife and daughters, and many gifts he shared with the community. You name it, he could build it or fix it!
Above all, Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He especially loved spending time with family and traveling with his beloved wife for her family reunions. He was also known for his kind nature and sense of humor and was lovingly referred to as the “second husband” to many of Judy’s friends. Bill will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Ross, Superior, WI; daughters, Jillene Paulette (David) Johnson, and Shana Patrice Ross, both of Superior; grandchildren, Brian Michael (Hannah Wells) Johnson, and Victoria Angeline “Tori” Johnson; great-grandson, William Gerald “Will” Johnson; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Ross; and several nieces and nephews; his wife’s uncle, Joseph Deneweth, with whom he had a special relationship; and other relatives and friends.
