William R. King

William R. King, 82, lifelong area resident died peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at his home in Lake Nebagamon, WI with his loving family by his side. He was born in Superior, WI, March 31, 1940, the son of Howard and Jean (McMeekin) King.

He was a graduate of the former Central High School in Superior, class of 1958 before enlisting and serving his country honorably in the United States Navy.

Bill was united in marriage to Karin Nelson, July 27, 1963, and they celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage before his passing.

He worked as a salesman for many years at the former Ekstrom’s Clothing in Superior, and later for Northwest Outlet where he retired after several years of dedicated service. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed fishing and bowling, but his greatest joy was in spending time with his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Karin King, Lake Nebagamon, WI; daughters, Shawna Crawford, and Kirsten (Richard) Saarela; son, Russ (Mindy) King; brother, Dennis King; stepbrother, Gary King; stepsister, Jean Bernardo. He was “handsome grandpa” to seven grandchildren, Donna (Ryan), Chloe, Kayla (Preston), Austin, Megan, Blake, Abby, and six great-grandchildren; and is further survived by his special nephew, Kyle Grothe, and several other nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; stepbrother, Sharon (Delores) Craker; two brothers-in-law, George Nelson, and Dale Grothe; and sister-in-law, Gloria Johnson.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 on Friday, September 30, 2022, at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5 ^th Street in Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service with Gary Banker officiating.

Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bill’s name to the Challenge Center, 39 N. 25 ^th Street E., Superior, WI 54880.
