William J. "Bill" Kovaleski Sr.

William J. “Bill” Kovaleski Sr., 73, longtime Lake Nebagamon resident, died Friday, January 31, 2020, at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN surrounded by family. He was born in Zanesville, OH, December 11, 1946, the son of Earl and Lilli (Bates) Kovaleski.

He graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Ohio in 1964, and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Forestall and Lexington.

Bill was united in marriage to Denise Newman-Austin, September 17, 1996 in Glacier National Park, and they celebrated twenty-three years of marriage before his passing.

He worked in facility maintenance for the Maple School District for many years before his retirement.

Bill was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping, and woodworking. He liked to travel and enjoyed the beaches in Florida. Above all, Bill loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Denise Kovaleski, Lake Nebagamon, WI; daughter, Brandie Joy (Andrew) Brummer, Independence, MN; sons William (Virginia) Kovaleski Jr., South Range, WI, and Bradley J. (Emma) Kovaleski, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire England; step-son, Matthew (Cindy) Austin, Port Wing, WI; step-daughter, Teresa (Bradley) Fuller, Maple, WI; grandchildren, Audralyn, Rebecca, Jake, Alex, Lilli, James, Charlotte, Logan, Flynn, Stanley, Trey, Dylan, Jacob and Jordan; and great-grandson, Braden.

He is preceded in death by his son, Andrew Joseph Kovaleski; step-grandson, Zachary Fuller; and his parents.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 8, 2020, at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 East 5 ^th Street, Superior, and will continue until the 1:00 PM funeral service with Rev. Fr. Inna Pothireddy officiating.

Following the service, Military Honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
