William C. “Bill” Roenitz, 85, lifelong Poplar area resident, passed away at his home on Friday, May 12, 2017 surrounded by his family following a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on September 16, 1931 in Sheboygan County, WI, the son of Kurt and Eleanore (Stubbe) Roenitz.
Bill moved to Wentworth, WI in 1960 and later relocated to Poplar. Over the years, he worked as a mechanical engineer for Kohler Company, Clyde Iron, and Superior-Lidgerwood-Mundy retiring from SLM in 1996.
William served his country in the United States Navy and saw action in the Korean conflict.
He married Joy Titel and would have celebrated 56 years of marriage on May 20th, 2017.
Bill loved to design and over the years he organized “work nights” where he and fellow employees built wood splitters, snowmobile trailers and ATV trailers.
He was very much a handyman and could fix most anything.
Bill was an avid outdoors man; he enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling & riding ATV’s. He especially looked forward to his annual fishing trips to White Otter Lake in Canada which he made for over forty years.
Bill was a member of the American Legion Post # 409.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert (Bob), sister-in-law Edyth, nephew David, an infant son and infant daughter.
He is survived by his wife, Joy; three daughters, Dawn (Gerald) Malec, Patti (Steve) Jennings, and Michelle (Aaron Lenmark) Roenitz-Sigfrids; two sons, William (Joan) Roenitz and Richard “Rick” (Lynn) Roenitz; grandchildren, Hilary (Andrew) Cain, Christine, Kevin, Emily, Jordan Roenitz; Kurt, Kyle (Jenn) and Kasawndra (Henry Hoyt) Malec; Erin (Sam) Rutten, Cody Jennings; Dylan and Natalee Sigfrids; great-grandchildren, Kalvin, Kloee, Kylee, Anna, Ari, Dustin Malec, Lilly Hoyt-Malec and Charlie Cain.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 20, 2017 and continue until the 1:00 PM memorial service in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 East 5th Street, Superior with Pastor Darrell Nelson of Mission Covenant Church, officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post # 409 at the funeral home following the memorial service.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Bill’s name to St. Mary’s Essentia Health Hospice Unit, Duluth, MN.
