Roy Douglas “Dug” Johnson, age 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 26th, 2025, at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation in Hawthorne, WI. He was born on July 19, 1945, in Superior, WI, the son of Roy A. and Ellen (Aho) Johnson.
Roy graduated from Northwestern High School in the class of 1963 and went on to work for Georgia Pacific in Superior, where he was a dedicated employee for many years.
On December 28, 1972, Roy married his love, Clara Alholm, in Superior. Together they shared 53 wonderful years filled with love and countless memories.
Roy was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature. He stayed active by cutting firewood, snowshoeing, running, and lifting weights, which kept him strong and spirited throughout his life. A true competitor at heart, he enjoyed countless cribbage games with friends. Roy was also a devoted football fan, cheering for both the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He cherished his frequent trips to Brule and Iron River, whether to pick up a newspaper, run errands, or share conversations with friends. Known for his expertise in firearms and knives, Roy took great pride in his collection, which was admired by all who visited his home.
Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Clara Johnson of Maple, WI; his grandsons, Charlie and Delano Moore; his siblings, Kathy, Joyce, and Ross (Mary) Johnson of Eau Claire, WI; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. He will always be remembered by his long-time neighbors and close friends, Jim and Rachel Romich and their children, Jillian and Jedidiah, who loved and cherished Roy as a grandfather figure as he had been in their lives since childhood.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Tina Moore.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home,1209 E. 5th Street in Superior, and will continue until the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Cloverland, WI.
Following the burial, there will be a small luncheon at Cloverland Town Hall, 12967 State Highway 13, Maple, WI.
